Drug Smuggling is an exciting mystery, that skilfully weaves crime fiction with adventure. The underlying issues of the novel are dark, but it is punctuated with humour and warmth, making it a highly enjoyable read.
Belize lies on the Caribbean coast and on the sea route between Honduras and Mexico along which, for a long time - and still now - drugs are being smuggled into the USA and into Europe.
By chance, two young German tourists discover a box of heroin on a lonesome beach - and their dream vacation mutates into a nightmare trip. Sabine and Katharina disappear without a trace.
In the idyllic bay outside San Pedro, Sandra and Alex are at anchor with their small sailboat.
Nevertheless, they are shocked to hear about the disappearance of two girls they had gotten to know. Sandra, of course, must get cracking straight away, starting with the search for Biene and Kati.
With her unprofessional snooping around, Sandra puts herself and Alex in great danger. But finally, with Sandra's "gut feeling" and Alex's rational help, they manage to contribute to solving the case in the end.

The serie
The books written by Maria Caviglia in German depict actual situations of people, their living conditions and sorrows. The 6 books of the series "Shadows over the Caribbean" are concerned with everyday crime of the region, and which not only worry the local population, but may have an impact far beyond the area. Drug Smuggling - by way of example - influences the lives of young and old, rich and poor across the world. Thus, they are much more than fiction.
In addition, the books describe the beauties of the Caribbean sea and islands, and update many a reader in geography.
